AT&T Selling Refurbished 16GB iPhone 5 for just $99

AT&T Selling Refurbished 16GB iPhone 5 for just $99

If you are planning on buying the latest iPhone 5 but not being able to because of its price tag then this is probably your chance to have a go at it. No, this is not a Black Friday deal or a holiday season shopping discount from Apple but it is from AT&T. AT&T is selling the refurbished iPhone 5 units for as low as $99. Excited? Read more after a jump.

The Texas-based carrier has listed refurbished Apple iPhone 5 models starting from $99 for 16GB unit, 32GB unit for $199 and 64GB unit for $299. The phones are available in both black and white colors, however there some restrictions for you to actually avail the low priced refurbished iPhone 5s. You need to be either eligible for an upgrade or a new customer and sign up a two year contract with AT&T, so if you fulfill all the requirements then you probably shouldn’t wait to get yours.

It is quite unlike that the refurbished iPhone 5 has showed up in the market just after two months of its release in September. When the iPhone 5 released it was expected that the refurbished units will hit the market, not at least before January. It is also been said that the refurbished ones will cost just $50 less than its original price, which is near $600 for 16GB model. So considering the original price of the iPhone 5, $99 price with a 2 year contract with AT&T is something that you shouldn’t miss at all.

YouTube may be unblocked in two to three weeks

The internet giant blocked access to the blasphemous video in Libya, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, but it didn’t block the video in Pakistan.

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is once again in talks with Google to unblock video sharing site YouTube.
“PTA hopes to unblock YouTube in two to three weeks,” PTA Chairman Farooq Awan told The Express Tribune on Thursday, adding they were in talks with the internet giant.

On September 17, PTA blocked the video sharing website to restrict access to an anti-Islamic video that sparked riots in many Muslim countries.

The internet giant blocked access to the blasphemous video in Libya, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia and India, but it didn’t block the video in Pakistan. The government, therefore, directed internet service providers (ISPs) to block the entire site.

The Express Tribune has already reported that PTA has received a directive from the Ministry of Interior with several instructions about unblocking of YouTube, permanent blocking of unregistered SIMs, Mobile Number Portability (MNP) and automated web locking.

The ministry, in its directive, told PTA to restore the video sharing site and manually block blasphemous content using

PTA’s system, according to a source familiar with the matter.
However, PTA doesn’t have any system to manually block thousands of links leading to the anti-Islamic video. It has to be done through ISPs, which is virtually impossible as this will require a huge amount of time and effort.

Problems of Ordinary Man

Nearly 20 million people live in mega city Karachi. At an average an adult travels more than 25 kilometers a day. Which includes students, factory workers, white collar employees, executives, sales persons, and marketing persons. They have to travel long distances twice a day. Since the normal working hours stretch from 9.00am to 6.00pm, and public transports are usually overloaded and roads are jammed during peak traffic hours. In the absence of decent public transport systems millions of people are forced to use their own motorcycles and cars, which is the main cause of huge oil import bill and growing use of CNG.

Around the world provision of public transport is the responsibility of government. If any government does not wish to get involved, it offers incentives to the private sector. As against this public transport in general and in Karachi in particular is highly insufficient and dilapidated vehicles can be seen plying on the roads, which are also overloaded. Therefore, the individuals are forced to use personal transport i.e. motorcycles and cars. Besides, hundreds of contract carriers operate in the city carrying commuters to their destinations.

Around the world provision of public transport is the responsibility of government. If any government does not wish to get involved, it offers incentives to the private sector. As against this public transport in general and in Karachi in particular is highly inadequate and dilapidated vehicles can be seen plying on the roads, which are also overloaded. Therefore, the individuals are forced to use personal transport i.e. motorcycles and cars. Besides, hundred of contract carriers operate in the city carrying commuters to their destinations.
To begin with, disallowing use of CNG in vehicles will add to oil import bill. However, the point to remember is that CNG stations use less than 10% of total gas consumed in the country. Therefore, permanent ban on use of CNG would hardly make any difference. Even larger quantities can be saved by containing gas pilferage estimated around 300mmcfd which is almost close to total gas being supplied to fertilizer plants by SNGPL.

It is necessary to remind the policy planners that all sectors except power plants are a major source of cash for gas marketing companies. Reportedly, KESC alone owes around Rs35 billion to SSGC. While there are huge payables KESC also fails in paying current bills. Therefore, asking SSGC to continue to supply gas to KESC is a zero sum game. Another point of concern is that KESC is adding around 600MW generation capacity which can only be run on gas. There is also a general impression that KESC has refused to operate its power plants on furnace oil and as and when its gas supply goes down it immediately resort to load shedding.

During recent closure of CNG stations in Karachi it became evident that over the years more than 70% of mini buses and also a substantial percentage of buses have installed CNG kits. Another problem is that like passenger cars these vehicles can't operate on diesel as well as CNG, once converted to CNG these vehicles can't be operated on diesel. Over the years operators of public transport have been ripping off passengers, as fares were set on the basis diesel price but vehicles were actually operated on CNG. A surprising point is that the authorities responsible for issuing 'fitness certificates' also didn't bother to inform the concerned authorities about gradual switch over of public transport to CNG from diesel.

Crude oil price is likely to hover above US$100/barrel in medium to long term. Therefore, if the government is serious in containing use on CNG, efforts have to be made to use bio-fuel (alcohol blended in motor gasoline and canola/corn oil added in diesel). Since alcohol and canola/corn fall under the category of 'indigenous and renewable sources of energy' their use will not add to the import bill of Pakistan. In fact the added advantage will be an increase in the production of sugarcane, canola and corn.

It is believed that 'oil import lobby' is the biggest opponent of introduction of bio-fuels in Pakistan. It is being said that use of bio-fuels will inflate prices of sugar and edible oil in the country, which is totally incorrect. Till today canola and corn oils can't be added to diesel because of being more expensive. Therefore, production and yield per acre of canola/corn seeds have to be increased significantly to bring down prices of these oils.

However, to begin with government should focus on production/sale of E-10 (motor gasoline containing 10% alcohol). Almost all the sugar mills have attached distilleries which can deliver the required quantity of alcohol as bulk of molasses (basic raw material for producing alcohol) is being exported. The added advantage is that no alteration has to be made in the carburetors of cars for using E-10.

No SIMs to be sold at outlets from Nov 30, 2012

Cellular service providers to block 5% of unregistered SIMs per week. PHOTO: FILE

Karachi: Cellular service providers will not be allowed to sell new SIMs through franchises, customer service centres or retailers from November 30, states an official notification sent by the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) to telecom operators on Tuesday.

Service providers will also have to verify all unregistered SIMs by December 12. Unregistered ones will be blocked permanently using a 5% illegal SIMs per week formula, it adds.

PTA has also asked service providers to block the entire stock of SIMs available in the market so no SIMs can be purchased from outlets starting December 1.

Sources said the interior ministry had issued some important directives to PTA regarding unregistered SIMs, which pose a great threat to national security.

They added that a high-level meeting was held at the PTA headquarters to communicate the aforesaid directions to operators, following which a notification was issued.

The telecom authority has asked cellular service providers to verify all SIMs by December 12, and issue a duly signed certificate stating that all credentials are 100% accurate by December 15. The credentials will be tallied with information available with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

According to the PTA’s notification, new SIMs can only be issued against two documents: the customer’s computerised national identity card (CNIC) or his/her driving licence.

Service providers will have to send the new SIM to the customer’s authorised residential address and maintain a proper record of SIMs issued, sold and retrieved. The rider delivering SIMs has to ensure the person who applied for the same personally receives it, that too after verifying the CNIC and signing the receiving confirmation.

As per the Supreme Court’s orders, no more than five SIMs – whether from one or more service providers – can be issued against a single CNIC. The choice to retain a particular number will rest with the customer, added the PTA notification.

A source said the interior ministry has asked PTA to unblock YouTube and manually block any blasphemous content. He, however, did not say when the decision is expected to be implemented.

Double Sawari Per Pabandi

The government of Sindh has once again imposed a ban on pillion riding for 17 days (Till Muharram 11) in Karachi, Hyderabad and Khairpur on the pretext of maintaining law and order in these cities during the month of Muharram. This ban will only add to the miseries of the common man. Pillion riding has been banned in Karachi many times in the past but this measure couldn’t put an end to the killings in the city. Though it does not improve the law and order situation, it definitely brings a lot of money to the pockets of our corrupt policemen.

We all know that killings will continue in Karachi until the Government of Singh takes a firm action against the elements involved in acts of terrorism. It is high time the Supreme Court took notice of this frequently-imposed, and completely useless, ban. It should order the Sindh government not to impose this ban again in the future if the law and order situation does not improve within 17 days.

Anni Khalid recently got married  to Malik Noureed Awan two months ago and was on honeymoon. As per the local news, she was having conflicts with her husband and left she the place angrily. It is reported that the conflict is basically because of her husband’s demand from her to quit music industry on the other hand, Annie determinedly wants to be a part of music industry. When Annie was contacted to talk about the issue, she couldn’t be available to talk as her mobile phone was switched off.

But actually according to sources, Annie Khalid’s wedding was performed to a Dubai based businessman, Malik Noureed Awan after Eid-ul-Fitar, where police raided. After marriage the couple went outside Pakistan for honeymoon. But the news has become a part of social media and social networking sites that Annie Khalid has came back to Pakistan leaving her husband alone in foreign country after having a dispute with him on the issue that he want her to leave the music industry of Pakistan

Pakistani pop singer, Annie Khalid the super Mahiya girl should manage her relation with her husband, as the anchors and people related to showbiz are facing the marriage problems due to their career. According to another news published on the media Shaista Wahidi has got divorced from her husband and left her children behind just because of her showbiz career, which is totally wrong. She has sacrificed the career of her children just due to her own career in showbiz industry of Pakistan. Now the beautiful Pakistani singer Annie has started disputes and quarrels with her husband taking the same issue to work in the music industry

Annie Khalid should politely discuss the issues with her husband Mr. Noureed Awan to make her relation stronger with her husband instead of having quarrel and disputes on the issue to work in the music industry. It seems that this time she is doing wrong act as she has left her husband alone and came back to Pakistan, while the couple was at their honeymoon in the foreign country.

Weddings Bells : Sushmita Sens announces her wedding by 2013

t’s official. Sushmita Sen is getting hitched soon. While the actor doesn’t tell us the name of the mystery man, she confirms the wedding next year. “Yes, I do plan to get married next year. I think it is time. Ab Bahut wait karva liya sabko (I have made everybody wait a lot),”

After having dated directors Vikram Bhatt, Mudassar Aziz and actor Randeep Hooda, Sen, 36, was recently rumoured to be dating 23-year-old business man Imtiyaz Khatri.

“I am taking my time to say yes, but once I say I do, it will be for keeps as I firmly believe in the institution of marriage,” said Sush on a recent visit to the Indo-German Urban Mela in the Capital. Do her daughters want to see her married?

“Alisah is too young but Renee is quite comfortable with me being single. She would like to see me as a bride one day, but she does not push me for it. She is 13 and we are more like friends; she understands me as a woman now. It’s only when she has skipped homework that I become the mother,” Sush says.

Priyanka Chopra got agitate with Kareena Kapoor

There are no points for guessing that two of the contemporary actresses in Bollywood- Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor- don't really get along well. Latest buzz doing rounds is that preferential treatment given to Bebo at a recent awards ceremony miffed Pee Cee.

"Priyanka, who was supposed to dance to Yash Chopra's songs, had been practicing hard since the afternoon. She had been sweating it out on the floor when, closer to the show time she noticed Kareena sailing in. This was her first public appearance post wedding, and Bebo simply breezed in and out without putting in even as much as a fraction of the effort or time that Priyanka had for the show. This irked PeeCee no end," an eye witness told Mumbai Mirror.
"She threw a fit behind closed doors, upset with the organizers with their preferential treatment. And though she was professional enough to go through the rest of the evening, she was visibly agitated. Her argument was, why would a star of her stature be expected to go through the grind of rehearsals when her contemporary is allowed to breeze in and out," the tabloid quoted another source as saying.

Bebo-PC Cold War:

Bebo had commented about Priyanka Chopra's accent on Karan Johar's chat show Koffee With Karan saying: "I wonder where Priyanka got her accent from?" Priyanka had responded saying: "I want to tell Kareena that I got my accent from the same place where her boyfriend got his," referring to Saif and her education overseas.

PC had also said, "I don't think people take Kareena too seriously." When she was asked what she would steal from computers of Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid, Kareena and others, Priyanka giggled and asked, "Does Kareena have a computer in the first place?"

Shahid Kapoor, who was earlier dating Kareena Kapoor, was said to be in a relationship with Priyanka Chopra at that time. Rumour mills suggested this was one of the reasons for icy vibes between the gorgeous ladies.

Priyanka reacted to Kareena's recent comment about not caring about national awards. Kareena had said: "I don't want the national award… I seriously don't need any such thing. I would only want the audience to go and watch the film once and that will be more than enough for me. Once everybody should see the movie and say it is a good watch." Priyanka took a jibe saying: "Well, I guess if you don't have one (National Award), then sour grapes!"

Interestingly, Piggy Chops wasn't invited to any of Saif-Kareena's wedding ceremonies as well!
