Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 2012
Jeep has introduced the new 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 at the 2011 New York Auto Show (NAIAS). It is the most powerful SUV, which the manufacturer has ever made. 2012 Cherokee SRT8 is able to pull up to 0.9 G on the skid pad, so it is not fast only in straight line, but the big SUV is able to turn very well. The reason is a new adaptive damping suspension managed by new Selec-Track system. The new Cherokee SRT8 offers paddle shifters on the steering wheel, better interior quality and brutal exterior. It also comes with a mind-blowing 19-speaker premium Harman Kardon audio surround-sound system with total power of 825 Watts and a 10” subwoofer. 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is scheduled to hit the market in the third quarter 2011.

Apple, Samsung faceoff in court over iPhone, iPad
SAN FRANCISCO: Two tech titans are squaring off in federal court tomorrow in a closely watched trial over control of the US smart phone and computer tablet markets.
Apple Inc. filed a lawsuit against SamsungElectronics Co. last year alleging the world's largest technology company's smart phones and computer tablets are illegal knockoffs of its popular iPhone andiPad products.
The Cupertino, California-based company is demanding USD 2.5 billion in damages, which if awarded would dwarf the largest patent-related verdict to date.
Samsung counters that Apple is doing the stealing and some of the technology at issue such as the rounded rectangular designs of smart phones and tablets have been industry standards for years.
The US trial is only the latest skirmish between the two over product designs.

Heroine vs Dirty Picture
In Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine, Kareena will be seen as a superstar. Heroine is set to release on September 21, which happens to be Kareena's birthday. Madhur is all praise for Kareena, and says she has done a fabulous job and is sure that she will get a national award.
The actress's upcoming venture Heroine is said to be similar to Vidya Balan's The Dirty Picture. The actress denied any similarity between the two movies and stated, "I am not getting into anyone's shoes. I am very much comfortable in my shoes and nobody fits into my size. I am not going anywhere. Heroine is not a dirty film...its completely different from 'The Dirty Picture'. It is unfair to compare the two films. The Dirty Picture was based in the 80's but this is a modern day story. 'TDP' was about an item girl, Heroine is about a superstar. I have taken on this film because of the script and not to compete with anyone. I think one should stop making comparisons as it is useless."
The hot Chamak Challo actress, Kareena Kapoor, who has seen ups and downs in the cine field and who feels that her marriage might affect her career, says, "I think I will be like Zohra Sehgal who would be working till 90...so tough luck. I am not going to give my place to anyone."

Veena Malik religious claims
Veena Malik’s Ramazan show “Astaghfaar” was cancelled after the promo received immense criticism from the masses, but the actor finds it sad that people started judging her before even watching the show.
“Even before the show was released, people started saying that Veena Malik is not allowed to do this show. It is very sad,” said Malik in an interview to BBC Urdu. “Neither did people see the show nor did they know what the show is like. It would have made sense if people reacted at the end of the show, but this does not make any sense to me… It was very very strange behavior.”
When asked why the show was called off, Malik said that she did not know the inside details, but she knew that the channel received a lot of “serious threats”.
Describing the show, Malik said, “This is a beautiful concept and I have not done a show like this before. In the holy month of Ramazan, I made an effort to learn something related to religion and I made an effort to sit with people and interact with them as to why this is a blessed month and what good things we should do in this month and what all do we need to learn in life.”
But when a caller asked whether her future will be a religious one or one full of scandals, Malik snapped back saying that people are being judgemental when they say there is a rift between her and her religion. “Religion is a very personal matter for me. I am very religious, but it is something between me and my God. I don’t think a third person can stand in front of me and judge how religious I am or I am not.”
Another caller asked her to move towards religion, to which Malik said that she had been studying Islam since she was ten. “The difference between me and others is that I have read the Holy Quran with translation, which most people do not. I may not be a complete or perfect Muslim, but I constantly try to understand Islam better.”
Malik also hinted that she might join politics as she has done social work and knows people well, but when asked about marriage, Malik was clear that she is “not in the mood”.
“When the time is right, I will get married.”
James Holmes "not talking" ahead of first court appearance
The suspected gunman in a massacre at a Colorado movie theater heads to court Monday as investigators reveal he is refusing to cooperate.
24-year-old James Holmes, who is accused of killing 12 and injuring 58 in a shooting massacre at a packed theater of moviegoers watching the premiere of the latest Batman movie, will be moved to a courtroom for a 9:30 a.m. MDT hearing where the charges against him of suspicion of first degree murder will be read.
Holmes has "lawyered up," and will not speak to investigators, Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said Sunday.
"He's not talking to us," the chief said.
Also Sunday, investigators searching Holmes' apartment found multiple Batman-related items. A law enforcement source confirms to Fox News investigators seized a Batman poster and a mask connected to the Batman movies from Holmes' apartment, though they did not say which character the mask was of.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press the mask found was a Batman mask. Investigators also took multiple other items from the apartment, including a computer tower.
A law enforcement source says in addition to multiple booby traps and ammunition, officials also removed 10 gallons of gas ready to explode.
"The idea was...he wanted to burn this place down," the source said. "And the gas would have made that fast."
Agents say they believe the person who opened the door would have been killed, setting off a fire storm that could have trapped people inside the building in the middle of the night.
Ben, a student who lives two floors below Holmes, tells Fox News he only saw Holmes twice since living in the building. He said Holmes was quiet, and kept to himself.
Officials at the University of Colorado, where Holmes was a Ph.D. student until recently dropping out, were looking Sunday into whether Holmes used his position in a graduate program to collect hazardous materials.
While the university disclosed that it was cooperating with police in the case, that disclosure was one of the few it has made three days after the massacre. It remained unclear whether Holmes' professors and other students at his 35-student Ph.D. program noticed anything unusual about his behavior.
His reasons for quitting the program in June, just a year into the five- to seven-year program, also remained a mystery.
Holmes recently took an intense, three-part oral exam that marks the end of the first year. Those who do well continue with their studies and shift to full-time research, while those who don't do well meet with advisers and discuss their options, including retaking the exam. University officials would not say if he passed, citing privacy concerns.
The university said Holmes gave no reason for his withdrawal, a decision he made in June.
Holmes was not allowed access from the institution after his withdrawal, which was "standard operating procedure" because he was no longer affiliated with the school, Montgomery said. Holmes had no contact with university police, she said.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Canon Takes the Leap to Introduce a Mirrorless Camera
Canon Inc. CAJ -2.74% announced it will start selling a “mirrorless” camera in September, marking the company’s much anticipated entry into the fast-growing segment of cameras that are small, like the point-and-shoot variety, while offering a bigger image sensor and the ability to change lenses like the single-lens-reflex — or SLR — models favored by serious photographers.
Canon is the last of the major digital camera manufacturers to offer a mirrorless model. The cameras are called mirrorless because they don’t have the conventional mirror-based viewfinders that reflect the image to the photographer’s eye. Instead, the cameras use digital viewfinders or go without them, allowing the body to be more compact.
The company will call the new camera EOS M, positioning it under the “EOS” brand reserved for its lineup of SLR cameras, instead of its PowerShot segment of high-end, point-and-shoot cameras. Canon spokesman Richard Berger said the high image quality of the EOS M made it a logical fit for the EOS label. With a separate lens mount, the mirrorless camera can also use lenses that fit Canon’s SLR models.
The Canon EOS M with a standard 22 millimeter lens will sell for $800 in the U.S. and it will carry a suggested retail price of ¥79,800 in Japan. Canon will also sell the same camera with a higher-magnification zoom lens as well as a kit with both the standard and zoom lenses.
Canon said it plans to initially produce 100,000 units a month. The camera will first go on sale in Japan in mid-September with overseas markets receiving shipments in the following months.
Mirrorless cameras are growing in popularity as consumers look for digital cameras that shoot better pictures than conventional point-and-shoot models, but without the heft of an SLR. Sony Corp., Panasonic Corp., and Olympus Corp. were quick to introduce cameras using the new digital technology, stealing a march on Canon Inc. and Nikon Corp., which have historically dominated the market for high-end SLR cameras.
Nikon introduced a mirrorless model late last year, while Canon said at the time it was waiting to see how the market would develop. When asked why Canon waited so long to enter the mirrorless market, Mr. Berger said the company felt it was only now that it had a product that can offer the high-image quality of an EOS camera in a compact and lightweight body.

Intel Threatens to Sue Anyone Who Uses HDCP Crack
Intel threatened legal action Friday against anybody who uses its proprietary crypto key — leaked on the internet — to produce hardware that defeats the so-called HDCP technology that limits home recording of digital television and Blu-ray.
“There are laws to protect both the intellectual property involved as well as the content that is created and owned by the content providers,” said Tom Waldrop, a spokesman for the company, which developed HDCP. “Should a circumvention device be created using this information, we and others would avail ourselves, as appropriate, of those remedies.”
Intel’s comments came as it confirmed that the internet leak of the “master key” to the High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection system was authentic.
HDCP is a copy-protection technology that encrypts high-definition video traveling from Blu-ray players or set-top boxes to television monitors. The technology was approved by the Federal Communications Commission in 2004, and is a standard feature in televisions, cable boxes, satellite receivers and Blu-ray players in much of the modern world.
The anonymous release this week of the HDCP master key means black market hardware makers, perhaps in China, can now create hardware capable of defeating the copy protection scheme. The leak comes just months after the movie studios persuaded the FCC to let them remotely switch-off the analog ports on your satellite receiver or cable box, so that Hollywood could sell new movie releases as pay-per-view offerings without fear that they’ll be recorded from non-HDCP outputs.
Waldrop declined comment on whether Intel has already brought in federal law enforcement to investigate the breach as a potential trade-secret violation. Federal prosecutors and the FBI in Silicon Valley also declined to comment.
The master crypto key for HDCP appeared Monday on the clipboard site Pastebin, and has since been mirrored on hundreds of other websites, in a scene reminiscent of the 1999 crack of the Content Scramble System that once protected DVDs from copying.
The HDCP master key in question — a long string of numbers — is used to generate lower-level “device keys.”
Device keys are embedded in hardware cards in set-top boxes, televisions and other electronics — enabling them to send and receive protected content in an encrypted format. The device keys verify that electronics are authorized to interact with each other.
Among the legal options available to Intel is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998, which prohibits the marketing of devices that circumvent encryption programs. The Hollywood studios, for example, recently sued and beat RealNetworks in a federal lawsuit after it produced a device that copied and stored DVDs, which are encrypted with the long-ago cracked Content Scramble System. Marketing in such devices could also violate criminal copyright laws.
Waldrop said Intel did not believe that a “human source” entrusted with the master key leaked it because the master is “created and structured that nobody sees it.”
“Someone has used mathematics and computers to be able to work back to what the master key is,” he said, declining to elaborate.
Paul Kocher, chief scientist at Cryptography Research in San Francisco, said in a recent interview that somebody in the business of making HDCP-compatible devices, who had access to at least 50 individual device keys, would have been able to reconstruct the master key by analyzing “mathematical similarities” in the individual device keys. That was a vulnerability in the technology, Kocher said, that was bound to be exploited.

Lenovo CEO spreads the wealth, distributes his $3 million bonus to lower level employees
The list of CEOs and other execs in the US that have accepted multi-million dollar bonuses for lording over the crash and burn of a company (or even an entire economy) is staggering. And we can guarantee you that most of that money went towards fancy cars and golden toilet seats.Lenovo's Yang Yuanqing, on the other hand, received a sizable $3 million bonus for actually being good at his job. The additional bonus was a reward for steering the company to record shipments and profits despite a weakening PC market. And what did Mr. Yuanqing do with that money? He gave it back to his employees. That second bonus was broken down into 10,000 discrete chunks and dispersed to line workers, assistants and other lower-level employees. I think that officially makes Yang Yuanqing our new favorite CEO in tech.

Samsung to sue Apple
Although the next generation of Apple‘s iPhone hasn’t yet been released, and no details about the device have been given, Samsung already plans to try to ban its sales in Korea, the Korea Times reports citing unnamed industry sources.
The legal battle between the two companies has been raging for months, with Apple managing to ban the sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab as well as some variants of the Galaxy S smartphone in several countries, including the Netherlands and Australia.
The companies also sued each other in Korea: Apple on the grounds of Samsung copying the iPhone and iPad product range, while Samsung’s countersuit has been more technology-based.
“For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights,” said a senior Samsung executive.
For now, Apple is winning the patent lawsuit war, but the next generation iPhone is one of the most anticipated gadgets of the year. If Samsung should manage to delay its launch — even only in Korea — it would be a nasty setback for Apple.

PayPal co-founder claims Google does not know to spend $50,000
Conference panels are often sedate, friendly affairs. But that wasn’t the case when Google chairman Eric Schmidt went up against Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder, investor and well-known libertarian gadfly.
The debate at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen Monday night tackled the question of whether technology has improved our lives over the past 30 years. Schmidt argued that it had; Thiel claimed progress had stagnated because tech has largely retreated from the real world into a virtual one.
“Google also has $50 billion in cash,” Thiel added. “It has no idea how to invest that money in technology effectively … if we’re living in an accelerating technological world, and you have zero percent interest rates, you should be able to invest all of your money in things that will return it many times over. The fact is you’re out of ideas.”
Schmidt countered that the company had no deficit of business models, but instead suffered from real-world constraints. “What you discover in running these companies is that there are limits that are not cash,” he said. “There are limits of recruiting, limits of real estate, regulatory limits.”
“Then the intellectually honest thing to do would be to say that Google is no longer a technology company,” shot back Thiel. “It’s basically a search engine developed a decade ago … That’s why all these companies are building up hordes of cash, because they don’t know what to do with it, but they don’t want to admit they’re no longer tech companies.”

Shilpa Shetty planning another 'Come Back'
She was last spotted on the big screen as a sultry beauty in the Dostana (2008) item number Shut Up And Bounce and since then, Shilpa Shetty has largely been away from the arclights.
But now, after motherhood, the actor is back in front of the camera, shooting for her hubby Raj Kundra and friend Sanjay Dutt’s new reality show, Super Fight League (SFL) Challengers. She has just shot for a special promo video, only 50 days after giving birth to her son Viaan.
“The things you have to do for your husband,” says Shilpa with a laugh. “Ideally, I would have taken more time off, but when I saw shots of the new reality show, I loved it. When Raj asked me to be part of the promo, I said, ‘no way, are you mad?’ but I remember we shot it really fast. Since it’s our home production, I had to take time out.”
Shilpa had gained 19 kg during her pregnancy, but has now lost 10 kg to get closer to her famous hourglass figure. Right now though, she is only thinking about motherhood and the first-of-its-kind reality show.
“Reality has always worked in India. It will act as a catalyst to help fighters get into the limelight,” says the Big Brother UK winner.
SFL Challengers, India’s first action reality show based on mixed martial arts, kicks off on August 5. “We will have eight male and eight female fighters living in a bootcamp. At the end of the week, one fighter, who loses in the weekly fight, will be eliminated from the show. Sanju and I have spent a bomb on this project. All the fighters will be trained under expert supervision,” says Raj.
Sanjay Dutt has also shot a promo for the show. “On the elimination day, we will also have a Bollywood celebrity on the show. The winners will straightaway get an entry into the SFL in September,” adds Kundra.
Salman Khan urged He and Katrina can't be real life couple
eams of newsprint have been devoted to the speculations surrounding Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s alleged romantic relationship and subsequent break-up. However, over the years, the two of them have refrained from commenting on the issue. Yet, even as the two actors are paired with each other in director Kabir Khan’s romantic thriller Ek Tha Tiger (they were last paired together in Yuvraaj in 2008), Salman Khan made a comment refuting all rumours about seeing Katrina: “We can’t be a real life couple,” he said, even as he praised her: “You can fall in love (with her) not only on screen but off screen too. That’s why people love Katrina, and follow her in hordes wherever she goes.”
Salman sounds thoroughly impressed with Katrina’s work in the movie as he says, “She is a very hard-working actor. She has dedicated around five hours a day, seven days, to each of the songs. The credit for the songs goes completely to her.”
Of course, Salman continues to be famously unmarried at 46. When asked to comment on this, Katrina recently said, “I think no one except Salman should decide at what age he wants to get married.” Fellow actor and friend Aamir Khan, however, urged Salman to get married soon, to which Salman said, “Aamir is after me! I don’t understand why everyone is after my marriage. Is there any benefit in me getting married?”
In Ek Tha Tiger, Salman plays an Indian secret agent in Dublin to investigate a case, where he falls in love with a secretary (played by Katrina).
